Kerzner Donates $50,000 At Red Ribbon Ball

An evening of glitz, glamour and elegance set the stage for what was hailed as one of the best Red Ribbon Balls of the past decade when the Bahamas AIDS Foundation received a $50,000 cheque from Kerzner International to fund education about the disease.

As evening gowns worthy of red carpet status gracefully swayed through the Atlantis’ Grand Ballroom Saturday, guests danced to the music of such performers as Tony Seymour Jr., the Soulful Groovers, the Falcons and Gray’s Jazz Combo.

The foundation raised $50,000, which added to Kerzner International’s $50,000 donation brought the evening’s total for the AIDS fund to $100,000.

Dr. Perry Gomez, Director of the National AIDS Foundation, said that the rate of HIV infections in the Bahamas had declined over the the past years.

He said 9,000 people have had HIV infections since 1995.
