Shark Attack Victim Sues Resort For Hefty Sum

Krishna Thompson and his wife, both New York residents, were celebrating their 10th wedding anniversary at the posh Our Lucaya Beach and Golf resort on Grand Bahama Island in August 2001. He was attacked by a shark when he went for a morning swim.

The New York Daily News said he escaped death by beating off the shark with his fists, but was bitten in the left leg. He was rushed to a hospital in Miami for treatment and may still need another surgery. His wife also sued the resort for $5-million.

The Daily News, which obtained the court’s transcript last week, said the suit was filed in October and the couple had rejected a settlement of $20 000 offered by the resort.

It said the resort’s legal team was trying to transfer the lawsuit from Brooklyn in New York to the Bahamas. It said Thompson may settle for between $3-million and $6,5-million, but the defence team had told the judge in Brooklyn Federal Court that it was still too high.
