Police Shoot Suspected Robber

Police say officers in the area noticed the man along with two other men, acting in a suspicious manner.

At the time, an armored vehicle was in the vicinity transporting a cash cargo for FirstCaribbean International Bank.

According to police spokesman, Chief Superintendent Hulan Hanna, the men attempted to flee the scene when they saw the officers.

Mr. Hanna said police caught two of the suspects in the plaza’s parking lot.

He said the other suspect ran down East Bay Street pointing a gun at the officers.

“Fearing for their lives, the officers shot the suspect in the left leg and left forearm.” Mr. Hanna said.

That suspect was subsequently taken to the Princess Margaret Hospital for medical attention. His condition was not known up to press time.

The incident, which took many employees of the Harbour Bay area by surprise, also resulted in traffic being diverted through the popular shopping plaza while a team of officers continued investigations.

The crime scene was littered with drops of blood, two of the suspect’s hats, and a 9mm handgun with 14 live rounds of ammunition.

The men are expected to go before court sometime next week on gun possession charges and other related offenses, Mr. Hanna said.
