PLP Need To Heed Supporters Cries

A man of great courage, a white Bahamian that was victimized by his own people in the early 70’s, his tractors, airplanes, etc. were damaged because of the faith and confidence he had in Sir Lynden Pindling therefore making him a PLP.

Mr. Key had made great sacrifices for the PLP and his country. He was one of the leading white Bahamians in The Bahamas to bring both black and white Bahamians together so they could live and share in comradeship together. So they would live as friends and work as partners.

I had the pleasure to meet Mr. Key in 1987 when we both served in the Senate. I knew him to be a man of action and a man for his people.

I don’t want to sound as if I am in church giving his “As I knew him” but if it seems that way its exactly how I feel.

Its as if we flustered a warrior and caused him to resign from the Senate. Of course, I hadn’t spoken to Mr. Key in a very long time but sometime last year I heard from a former PLP minister who said Mr. Key was very unhappy about some very simple things he asked of his party on behalf of his people.

And these simple things were only a phone call away, yet the party he fought for for so many years, had put him in such an embarrassing position, he was unable to help the people that had supported him for so many years.

I believe it must be some kind of conspiracy among the leaders of our party to destroy the party.

During our convention, people from all the constituencies in The Bahamas told the leadership how they were not happy with the way things were being run.

When we had our 10th anniversary service at Mount Tabor Baptist, Bishop Neil Ellis pleaded with the leadership of our party to help those supporters who were in the trenches for so long but still stood for the party.

Last Sunday I attended Golden Gates Assembly and Bishop Ross Davis in his own kind and unique way told the MP for Carmichael Mr. John Carey in similar words “this is my party and I love it dearly but you have to step” and everywhere I travel whether it is to Florida or one of the Family Islands the message remains the same.

I was so impressed with the Prime Minister during December’s counsel meeting and I am sure every counsel member was impressed with his presentation but nothing has happened.

But losing someone like Mr. Key from the Senate is no joke and it spells bad news for the PLP.

There may be some of us that take this lightly and it would not be a surprise to me because the majority of the members of parliament in the PLP do not understand politics.

My suggestion to the leadership of the party is that the imagery in the party needs to stop quick and fast or else we will find ourselves in opposition in 2007.

There are too many cries coming from the PLP about things that can be solved with a single phone call.
