Environmental Awareness Adds Value To Bahamas Tourism Product

Cost-saving measures that are environmentally friendly have the potential to revolutionise tourism, reducing operational costs, increasing revenue and bringing added value to a destination through visitor ssatisfaction ratings, supporters of the Caribbean Alliance for Sustainable Tourism said yesterday.

Jeremy MacVean, the Bahamas Hotel Association’s (BHA) president, said the race to increase market share in international tourism had escalated, with some 170 countries competing for tourism dollars.

Every corner of the globe was looking for ways to increase tourism share and grow business, so Mr. MacVean said it was critical for smaller destinations such as the Bahamas to differentiate themselves from the pack and, in particular, the Caribbean product by incorporating unique and distinctive features to attract tourists and increase the jurisdiction’s competitive edge.
