Ninety’ Demonstration In Rawson Square

With signs protesting the extradition in Her Majesty’s Prison and the country’s judiciary, the men lined up at the edge of Rawson Square with their signs pointed toward the House of Assembly on the opposite side.

It was the end of the march from Christie Park on Nassau Street and the beginning of ninety minutes of protesting. The noise of the protesters could be heard inside the House of Assembly.

Dwight Knowles, who led the group, said the extradition proceedings against Knowles were not being properly handled. They said the courts had not followed the proper procedures and that te United States has tried to influence the Bahamas’ decision on the matter.

Knowles said the group, which protested under the name Freedom March, had applied for a permit two weeks ago but were denied.

Political activist rodney Moncur then applied on their behalf and was able to get permission from the Police Commissioner Paul Farquharson for yesterday’s march from 10:30am to 2pm.
