Sidney Stubbs Bankrupt

Under the constitution, Mr. Stubbs, the controversial former chairman of the Bahamas Agriculture and Industrial Corporation (BAIC) will cease to perform his functions as a member of the House, but does not have to vacate his parliamentary seat immediately.

The order was handed down by Justice Jeanne Thompson on March 30.

The details of the order were not available up to press time and it was unclear whether Mr. Stubbs planned to pay the debt or challenge the decision.

The plaintiff in the case was Gina Gonzalez who had instructed her lawyers to collect more than $70,000 from Mr. Stubbs.
