With the national deficit at $164 million, some government critics refuse to believe the announcement that an ”imminent” surge is the Bahamian economy will make it unnecessary to raise taxes or introduce new ones.
Appearing on the Sunday evening talk show Jones and Company, the opposition Free National Movement’s Deputy leader Sidney Collie said the Progressive Liberal Party’s budget scares him, because ”the ordinary Bahamian hears no new taxes, but in the following breath we hear we are reviewing all of the areas where taxes have not been collected”.
