The number of people shot by police in the Bahamas in the first seven months of this year is already double that of all of last year.
This year police shot 15 people, killing three. In the 12 months of last year there were seven recorded police shootings, with three deaths.
No police officer has been shot and killed on duty in the two years.
The controversial May 18 shooting death of 22-year-old Drexell Rolle created a major uproar in the Market Street community after Rolle was shot dead by police when he attempted to open fire on police officers during a car chase.
On June 6, police gunned down another man who approached them and opened fire with a silver-coloured hand gun after a high-speed car chase.
The most recent shooting death involving police occurred on June 20 when 30-year-old Andrew Williams was shot dead by police after opening fire with a gun on officers. Williams was suspected of being behind a number of recent crimes.
