At 1.50am on Wednesday, four men, two of them armed with handgtuns, entered a West Bay Street residence, forcing their way through a sliding door.
The four men threatened the home owners, a married couple, and tied them up while they robbed the house of valuable contents.
The perpetrators fled the premises with jewellery and cash.
Speaking with The Tribune on Sunday, Chief Supt Marvin Dames, said: “Home invasions have been a concern for us sometime because when something catches on people run with it and there are persons out there who enjoy going into other people’s homes and terrorising them.”
Assistant Commissioner of Police Reginald Ferguson told The Tribune yesterday that criminal trends are repetative and that the recent string of home invasions might indicate a resurgance of that particular type of crime.
The assistant commissioner is, however, confident that this trend can be stopped.
“There is only a limited number of persons who commit this sort of crime and we have several initiatives in place and are making every effort to curtail and stop these incidents,” Mr Ferguson said.
