Travellers waited for up to two hours in the line for security screening at Nassau International Airport on Saturday.
The line stretched from the security points inside the terminal through the United States departure building out the door and all the way to the non-US departure building.
One of the luggage screening machines at the airport had broken down early Saturday morning, making waits even longer as only one machine was left to deal with all passengers.
An American Airlines representative said the long lines have become normal over the last few weeks as this is a peak travelling period.
The screening machine was working again within a couple of hours.
Dozens of hot and uncomfortable passengers struggled with their luggage as the line moved steadily forward, snaking in between check-in desks and through the small area behind the desks. Passengers tried to stop for as long as possible in front of the fans, placed around the hall, before the queue moved forward.
many travellers were wondering if they would make their flightss, having still not made it through the first of three security checks with less than half an hour left.
An American Eagle representative said travellers who checked in two hours in advance, as recommended, would not risk missing their flights, but that “two or three people” from each of the airline’s flights who checked in later than that, did not make their flights.
