Bahamas Urged To Keep An Eye On The Storm

Local forecasters are encouraging residents of the southern Bhamas to follow the movements of Hurricane Frances closely over the next few days.

It is still too early to predict the exact threat Frances poses to the Bahamas, however, forecasters should have a better idea by early next week which parts of the country the storm might affect.

Hurricane Frances grew into a category 2 storm on Friday but was not expected to threaten land in the near future.

According to the National Hurricane Centre in Florida, Frances had maximum sustained winds near 105mph and was expected to get stronger during Saturday and could develop into a catgeory 3 storm.

On Friday evening, the storm was centered about 820 miles east of the Lesser Antilles in the southeastern Caribbean and was moving westnorthwest at nearly 10mph forecasters said.
