Stone McEwan, the Abaco based entertainer, song writer, producer and recording artist, is on his way to Newport Rhode Island to perform and represent The Bahamas. Showcasing his talents internationally for many years, in countries such as England, the United States and throughout The Bahamas, this is another opportunity for him to share his talents and the wonderful Bahamian culture with others.
For those of you who do not know, Stone’s first recording “Say What You Like” became one of the most recorded Bahamian song by other local artists. It was also one of the first Bahamian songs to be played on radio stations in the U.S. He also formed, and led the groups, Force and Willpower. Stone’s band Force is also the first Bahamian group to have its recordings produced and marketed on a CD disk in The Bahamas.
Since moving to Abaco in 1997, while there Stone has recorded and released two CD’s with all original songs, “Hangin Out in Abaco” and “Don’t Touch It if You Can’t Handle It” He was also one of the many artists, who performed at the 31st independence concert that was televised live from Arawak Cay on July 8.
He will be sharing the spot light, with the Royal Bahamas Police Force Band, Colours Junkanoo Organisation, Ivas Davis, known on stage as “Brachie” the Limbo dancer From the King and Knights show club in Nassau, Ms. Daphane Brown, a young and talented singer also from Abaco and members from the group Ambassah out of Nassau.
The venue for their performances will take place at the home of Peter de Savary, founder and chairman of The Abaco Club on Winding Bay. He is also financing the exportation of Bahamian culture, in the hopes that it will entice those in attendance and others, who have never visited The Bahamas, to do so.
In attendance will be Prime Minister Perry G. Christie, Minister of Tourism Obie Wilchcombe, Minister of Financial Services and Investments Allyson Maynard Gibson, residents of Rhode Island and many others.
The event is a fund raiser for the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, an organisation that is dedicated to the protection of the estuary and the restoration of Chesapeake Bay. This is the second ball to be held, at the previous event, fifty thousand dollars was raised. The targeted amount to be raised this year is five hundred thousand dollars.
At five hundred dollars a seat, along with an auction of very high priced items, one can assume that the projected amount of funds will be raised.
The contingent of over 100 talented Bahamians is scheduled to depart Nassau, Aug. 7, returning Aug. 8, guaranteeing all in attendance, a delightful and entertaining Bahamian night on Rhode Island.
To further enhance the Bahamian themed night, there will be many Bahamian dishes for all to sample, prepared by Tarell Russell, a local chef from Abaco. The Abaco Ministry of Tourism office will also be represented by their administrative executive, Ms. Winsom Ferguson. To top of a fine meal those who smoke, will have the opportunity to experience one of the best cigars in the world, rolled at the event by one of the world famous Graycliff Cigar Co. cigar rollers out of Nassau.
Stone McEwan who is also a part of the Winding Bay family has been dubbed the Minister for Fun by Mr. de Savary, and together with Mark Scott the project director for Winding Bay, is the organisers in The Bahamas for the planned event. Stone said it is quite a challenge organising the movement of so many people, and he is looking forward to exhibiting the enormous wealth of talent associated with the groups.
