The embattled Bahamas Chamber of Commerce, an increasingly dysfunctional organisation, was given a shot in the arm last week when it was announced that the US Embassy would link up with the group to hold three business seminars.
The seminars will address critical issues facing the business community – tax reform, the Free Trade Area of The Americas (FTAA) and small business development.
Following the tax reform seminar planned for October 7, the Chamber of Commerce is also staging a luncheon meeting and an evening town meeting to discuss the services aspect of the proposed FTAA agreement. These meetings will be addressed by an American speaker from the Organisation of American States (OAS), and Hilary Deveaux, chair of Caricom’s services negotiating group.
The Chamber is also looking to hold a Business Development Seminar on November 16, aimed at educating entrepreneurs wanting to start or having just started their own business. It will focus on areas such as financing, how to develop a proper business plan and the entrepreneurial opportunities available to Bahamians.
