The Bahamas is going to need all the “help in the world that we can get” to recover from the destruction left by Hurricane Frances and Jeanne, said the prime minister Perry Christie.
Mr. Christie told delegates attending the Miami Herald’s Americas Conference in Florida that the Bahamas may have escaped the worst of the destruction brought on by hurricanes to Caribbean nations thes year but parts of the island chain are still reeling.
Because the Bahamas does not rank among the regions poorest countries, it is sometimes passed over for relief, Mr. Christie said on Friday. However, he recognised that neighbouring islands were hit harder by the series of storms.
