A week before his wedding, Sergeant Byron Forbes died suddenly in a horrific traffic accident on John F. Kennedy Drive near Lake Cunningham on Friday evening.
He was attached to the Interpol unit of the Crime Intelligence Bureau of the Royal Bahamian Police Force. A physician reportedly pronounced him dead on the scene. He had a female passenger with him, his fiance.
Two women who saw the accident told The Guardian that around 5:40pm the car travelling west along JFK Drive, was attempting to overtake another vehicle when it collided with an ambulance, heading in an easterly direction.
The car reportedly swerved to avoid the ambulance, but still hit the emergency vehicle’s on the front bumper and along its left side causing the ambulance to flip three times before landing upright in bushes about 50 feet from the car.
The female passenger, who was said to be cosnious following the accident, remained in a state of shock.
Tha ambulance also had two people in it. A female driver who was carrying a pregnant woman.
It was not clear whether it was in emergency mode blaring its siren when the accident occurred. The occupants of the ambulance, who sustained minor injuries, were taken to Princess Margaret Hospital.
