BHA Golf Tournament to Support Hurricane Relief

In light of the impact of Hurricane Frances, particularly on the lives and livelihood of many in Grand Bahama and Abaco, the Bahamas Hotel Association (BHA) is launching an appeal for broad support of this year’s BHA Annual Golf Tournament – in which fifty-percent of the proceeds will be directed to hurricane disaster relief and recovery.

The golf tournament has grown in stature and participation since it was first established in 1999. ᅠThe funds generated are used for a variety of training and industry development programs that ultimately benefit the entire economy. ᅠHalf of the money raised this year will continue to support those important efforts. The other half will be directed toward hurricane recovery.

“We are pleased to be able to support this important effort. ᅠWhile many of the nation’s hotels have suffered a financial setback as a result of the recent hurricane, we recognize the misfortune which has fallen on many of our neighbors” stated Michael Hooper, General Manager of the British Colonial Hilton and Chairman of the tournament.

“The golf tournament, which will include broad support from the nation’s hoteliers, other industry sectors, and suppliers of goods and services to the industry, will provide an additional avenue for the industry to show its support” he added.

This year’s event is scheduled for Sunday, October 24, 2004 at the Radisson Cable Beach Golf Course. Tee-off time is 7:45 a.m.

“Given the worthwhile and timely cause we are supporting, we expect to exceed last year’s 60 golfers and the level of sponsors and prize donors” stated Hooper.

“Plans are underway to secure a large number of exciting prizes to entice as many players as possible and we hope to have a record number of sponsors demonstrating their support for the industry and the hurricane relief effort” he concluded.

Individuals wishing to play or provide support should contact the Hotel Association at 322-8381.
