At 1pm Thursday, smack in the middle of the business day, there was a blackout in New Providence lasting about 30 minutes. However, most areas were without power for more than an hour and some areas did not see restoration of electrivity until about 5pm.
The island-wide power oitage was blamed on the failure of a 33,000 volt control panel at a substation at the Blue Hills Power Station.
