Residents of the Bozine Town and Knowles Drive said Monday if the government does not intervene in their impending eviction from their residences by Harrold Road Development Company (LANDCO), they will resort to violence.
The group along with the member of Parliament for the Blue Hills constituency, Leslie Miller, examined a 12-foot pit created by an excavator below the hill of Bozine Town. The excavation of that area has been described as hazardous to the environment.
Mr. Miller said the act was “totally criminal” and the company has “no concern for the ecology of this land”. He also questioned why the land had to be destroyed in that manner to collect fill.
Additionally, he stated that a child from Bozine Town could suffer a fatal fall into the pit, as it has no protective barriers.
Minister Miller called upon the Ministry of Works and the Department of Environmental Health to intervene. Further, he questioned why the company’s equipment could not be confiscated as it has received two work stoppage orders.
