Grand Bahama & Abaco Affected By Cable Damage

FREEPORT, GRAND BAHAMA ヨ Monday, October 18, 2004: Residents in several areas of Freeport were dealt another blow this weekend after a utility company accidentally struck and damaged a major fibre optic trunk cable carrying Cable Bahamasᄡ signals to more than 30% of the companyᄡs customers there. The damage, which first occurred late Saturday evening, resulted in the interruption of all cable services for residential and commercial customers in the affected areas, including television, Internet and digital music service. Cable subscribers in Abaco also experienced a loss of a portion of their cable TV signals as a result of the damage.

The areas impacted include:

– Areas of south Bahamia

– Malibu Reef, Williamstown, Beachway Drive, Cove House areas

– Areas surrounding east Sunrise Highway, from Lucayan Roundabout to Shannon and Chesapeake subdivisions

– Midshipman Road areas including Fortune Bay, Fortune Cay, Smith Point and Spanish Main

– East Grand Bahama, including High Rock, Bevans Town and Freetown

– The Grand Bahama International Airport terminal building

– Cable TV feed that serves Abaco

Crews worked diligently throughout the weekend and on Monday to fully restore services. Areas began to be restored at 9:30 a.m. Monday and all areas were reactivated by 6 p.m. Cable Bahamas apologises for the inconvenience and impact that this outage incurs and assures its valued customers that every effort was made to restore services as quickly as possible.
