A 28-year-old man appeared in court yesterday charged with committing two murders on Cat Island last week.
Ricardo Brown of Old Bight, Cat Island, was charged in Magistrate’s Court in nassau with the murders of 49-year-old Carol Meredith and 28-year-old Victor Hoyte.
Brown was not required to enter a plea.
Police discovered the body of Mr. Hoyte in the doorway of his residence after he had been shot in the head at close range with a shotgun. Mrs. Meredith’s body was found mutilated and with her throat cut a short time later.
Both murders took place last Tuesday night.
Magistrate Linda Virgill criticised Brown for his nonchalant attitude in court, and responded to his occasional bouts of laughter.
“I don’t see two charges of murder as a laughing matter,” she told him.
Brown will remain in police custody until his preliminary hearing, scheduled for december 3.
