Tourists Shocked By Cable Beach Battle

Tourists and passers-by watched in horror last night as a running fight broke out on Cable beach following a two car collision near the Cecil Wallace Whitfield Building.


Men from the two cars began fighting after bottles were thrown. Officers from the nearby police station rushed to the scene and one was knocked to the ground in the nsuing melee.


The battle began while people were taking an early evening stroll on Cable Beach’s popular median. Tourists from nearby restaurants were among those who witnessed what one passer-by described as “a horrific scene which will leave a very bad impression with visitors who saw it.”


One bystander said, “the collision itself did not seem very serious but what happened afterwards will live in the memory for some time.”


“It was a very disturbing outbreak of violence in what is regarded as a prime Nassau tourist spot.”


The fight began after two cars were involved in a minor collision on the west-bound carriageway near the Cecil Wallace Whitfield Building. Men were said to have gotten out of one car to throw bottles at the other. the second car then reversed back to the scene of the crash. Its occupants got olut and began fighting the men in the other car.


“It was shocking,” said one woman who was out walking when the incident happened. “It was very scary. the men were throwing bottles and running wild all over the roadway. It was very frightening and very disturbing.”
