Before the actions of a violent criminal yesterday, at 10:30am on almost any Sunday, you could find Pearl Sylvester behind the counter of Cavaness Convenience and Variety Store, with her husband Sidney.
However, at 10:30am yesterday Pearl was not behind the counter. She was on the ground in front of the store, with her head leaning on the sign post, blood oozing from the multiple cutlass wounds to her skull.
Police investigators said that at least one man toting a cutlass entered the store and proceeded to rob Mrs. Sylvester. As the armed robbery took place, police said she was chopped several times to the back of the head with the cutlass.
Paramedics indicated at the scene, before rushing her to the hospital, that Mrs. Sylvester would survive.
