The grief stricken family of an American doctor who was killed on a jet-ski off Paradise island last week have been talking about the tragedy.
Relatives of 44-year-old Anthony Moretti from Staten Island, New York, said they were less an hour into their family vacation when the fatality happened.
“It just doesn’t seem real because it was so quick,” said Dr. Moretti’s widow, Laura, in an interview with the New York Daily News. “It’s tragedy in paradise.”
Dr. Moretti arrived last week with his wife and children, who together planned to meet up with their relatives who had arrived earlier.
Laura Moretti said her family did not even unpack after arriving at the Atlantis resort. Instead they quickly chnaged into swimwear and headed to the beach to surprise her father.
When they arrived on the beach, a family member, who still had half an hour rented on his jet-ski, offered the machine to Dr. Moretti.
Family members told police that minutes after Dr. Moretti climbed onto the jet-ski, he crashed into a jet-ski operated by his 13-year-old niece, and suffered a fatal head wound. the young girl received minor injuries.
It had been less than an hour after arriving in the country for their family vacation.
Police Supt. Hulan Hanna told The Tribune on Wednesday that both Dr. Moretti and his niece were riding on the machines alone when the collision ocurred.
The funeral is being held today in New york at Holy Rosary Church.
