A nationwide teachers’ strike could be “very possible” as the relationship between teachers and administrators at many schools becomes increasingly tense, Bahamas Union of Teachers president Kingsley Black told The Tribune yesterday.
The union president said that the divisive “us against them” attitude developing among teachers and the infighting among Ministry of Education officials has boiled over to develop much of the current discontent within the education system.
In September a shortage of teachers at the Dame Doris Johnson High School caused frustrated teachers to stage a walk-out and a month later teachers of C.C. Sweeting Junior High, severly inconvenienced by the loss of 14 classrooms which have needed repair for almost 11 years, took similar action.
