Sol Kerzner Named ‘Hotelier of the World’

Sol Kerzner has been named “corporate hotelier of the world” by Hotels magazine, his company Kerzner International Ltd announced today, from Paradise Island in the Bahamas.

Announcing the award in this month’s issue, the magazine wrote that Kerzner’s story was about defying expectations, carving out a new niche and “wowing” guests as a developer of resorts, casinos and hotels in Mauritius, Dubai, the Maldives, Mexico and the Bahamas.

Now in its 24th year, the annual award was made to a corporate and independent hotelier voted for by the magazine’s 60,000 readers in 170 countries, Kerzner International said.

Kerzner’s hospitality career began in 1960 in Durban, but he is best known for his involvement in the country’s first five-star hotel, The Beverly Hills Hotel, and the Southern Sun chain, including Sun City, with which he is no longer affiliated. He took his expertise to the Americas in 1994. – Sapa
