The Royal Bahamas Police Force will increase its efforts at preventative policing, which will include installing new training initiatives, promoting positive attitudes and targeting the community for increased participation in battling crime.
Responding to the nation’s concerns about the increase in violent crimes, particularly murder, Chief Supt. of Police Marvin Dames said yesterday that police officers are now taking their roles as law enforcers more seriously, and are now focusing more on the prevention of crimes.
One method of this is to “provide the necessary advice and guidance” in domestic crime which has reportedly resulted in several murders over the past few weeks.
Supt. Dames said that the role of the Bahamian police officer is unique because the small size of the country demands that they must respond “to almost everything”.
