Concerns Over Haitians Travelling To the Bahamas

Government officials are concerned that Haitians are travelling to the Bahamas despite a suspension on visas being issued for almost two years.

An investigation to determine how Haitians have come into possession of these documents has now been launched.

Meanwhile, one prominent Haitian living in the Bahamas is calling for the government to end the policy of denying Haitians visitor’s visas, which he said is embarrassing at best.

Labour and Immigration Minister Vincent Peet has answered concerns from Inagua residents who say they were alarmed at the number of visas which have recently been issued to Haitians who hae entered the island.

“The number is high and it has caused concern. My ministry has ordered a stop to issuing visas and a full investigation will take place,” said Mr. Peet.
