Cabinet minister Bradley Roberts was expected to hold a public meeting in Harbour Island last night to deal with the serious water shortage there.
The utilities minister, according to residents, was going to explain why the resort community has run dry at the height of the tourist season.
For five days, many homes on the island have been without water. Others with holding tanks find their rainwater supplies running low.
“It’s a crisis situation,” said one American home-howner, “some people are thinking of leaving the island because of the lack of water.”
Residents Request Assistance
Harbour Island depends on wells in North Eleuthera for water, but a two-year drought has taken its toll. Now residents have appealed to the government for help.
