Some movie lovers were shocked on Saturday night, upon discovering that the tires of their cars, parked in the Mall at Marathon lot near Galleria Cinemas had been slashed.
The incidents reportedly occurred between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. during the second evening showing at the theatre.
A frustrated patron, who spoke to The Guardian on the condition of anonymity, claimed she had just purchased new tires for her Toyota Camry, and was upset that a relaxing Saturday evening at the movies, had been capped with the stress of having to get someone to change a slashed tire in the middle of the mall lot.
She pointed out that many people who exited the theatre were appalled to discover that their tires had either been slashed or poked with holes, which resulted in slow leaks. She estimated that at least 10 people were seen in the lot changing tires following the movie. Others, she added, discovered that they had flat tires once they had left the area, as they were later seen on the side of the road having them changed.
Apparently none of the incidents had been reported to mall police or security.
The Guardian contacted the police station at the Mall at Marathon for further information yesterday. But a spokesperson claimed no reports of slashed tires came into the station on Saturday night and there was only one report of a stolen vehicle.
The female spokesperson said the mall area is not patrolled by officers, but by the mall security. She added that a surveillance camera of the entire mall area is posted inside the police station and it is regularly monitored. However, she could not confirm if anyone was spotted on camera slashing tires on Saturday night.
According to the officer, there had been reports of tire slashing in the past, but they were normally isolated incidents.
A man at the Mall and Marathon Security desk, who refused to give The Guardian his name, said Security also received no reports of tire slashing on Saturday night.
