Police said Henry Curry, 29, was killed around 2:20am Sunday while in the area of the Audley Kemp & Sons establishment on East Street North. Officer Curry suffered multiple gunshot wounds about the upper body, including his back.
Several persons were reportedly arrested in connection with the shooting.
“The investigations are moving along extremely well,” Chief Superintendent Hulan Hanna said. “We are pleased with the progress we have made and we are hoping to bring closure to this matter in the next few days or so.”
He said police were optimistic that the persons in custody will be formally charged in court sometime this week.
Police also reported that a resident of Hicksville, New York was killed in an accident on West Bay Street early Monday.
The incident occurred around 1:50am in the area of Coral Drive when a Chevy Astro taxi van traveling on West Bay Street and a 1993 Ford pickup truck collided, police reported.
“It is reported that 22-year-old Eric Chan was holding on to the taxi that was moving at the time when he apparently lost his grip and fell into the pathway of the oncoming truck,” Mr. Hanna said.
“As a result of this he was rolled over.”
Mr. Chan was taken to the Princess Margaret Hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly before 6am, police said.
Police also said certain specifics of the accident still remained unclear.
Mr. Chan’s death marked the country’s 31st traffic fatality for the year.
