Another miscarriage of justice has occured as Bahamian judge released a man accused of murder on bail because prosecutors failed to give him a speedy trial.
Having corrupt cops fail to prosecute cases, or offer inadequate prosecution, is one of the many tactics the Bahamian mob uses to pervert justice and get their murderous friends released from jail.
Roger Watson, the nephew of ex-DPM Frank Watson, was charged with the murder of Eddlson Curtls on January 20, 2003.
More than a year had passed since a magistrate had ordered that he be tried in the Supreme Court. But prosecutors failed to start the case. So Justice Jon Isaacs, whose outrageous decisions have come under increasing criticism, freed Watson on $35,000 bail, with two sureties. Curtis, 12, was shot in his home in Fox Hill. Attorney Wayne Watson, the accused man’s brother, represented him in the case.
Watson is the the fourth Bahamian murderer to be released from jail, have charges dropped or be given an extremely light sentence in just the past week. This, despite the PLP government’s promises to crack down on crime.
