Major Water Leak Affects Winton Homes

Some Winton residents were temporarily left with little or no water on Wednesday evening due to a major leak that sprung in the Over-the-Hill area, according to officials of the Water and Sewerage Corporation.

Officials at the corporation said they have launched an investigation into the matter.

They said the leak occurred sometime after 4pm, in the area of 2nd Avenue and Robinson Road, according to Philip Beneby, the corporation’s assistant general manager.

Workers were immediately dispatched to the area to launch an “aggressive” repair, he told The Bahama Journal.

“We want to put the public on notice that there will likely be a shortage in the area for eastern residents.

“This pipeline provides water to the Winton area and residents are likely to have a low supply or no supply of water for a few hours until the repairs are completed. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.”

Officials said they have no idea what caused the leak, but they said the pipes in the area are old.
