Police Injured During High-Speed Chase

Two police officers were rushed to hospital on Monday morning after suffering injuries following a high-speed chase, police reported.

Police said that around 9am officers noticed a white Nissan Sentra traveling at a high rate of speed.

It was reported that the car proceeded into the Balfour Avenue and Podoleo Street area and the occupants of the vehicle stepped out and started firing several shots at the officers.

This reportedly resulted in the officers rear-ending a silver Mitsubishi vehicle. The two officers were taken to hospital in a conscious state, police said.

The gunmen escaped in a nearby area, police said.

Meantime, two other gunmen were the focus of police investigations on Monday.

Police said the pair held up a 44-year-old man of Lumumba Lane, Fox Hill around 4am.

The man had just arrived home when the bandits reportedly robbed him of jewelry before forcing him on the inside of his apartment.

Police said two other occupants were held at bay.

According to Police Inspector Walter Evans, after searching the apartment, the robbers left the area on foot with a large amount of cash and other items.
