Traffic Deaths in Family Islands

The country recorded another traffic fatality over the weekend, pushing the number of traffic-related deaths so far this year to 63.

According to police reports, the fatal mishap occurred around 6:50 Friday evening when a Kia Optima being driven in a northerly direction along Burnt Ground Highway on Long Island struck a pedestrian.

The victim, a 55-year-old male, was believed to be a resident of the Burnt Ground community.

He was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, Police Inspector Walter Evans said.

Police reported that the mishap was the first traffic fatality on Long Island for the year. It came just one day after Ronald Delancy, aged 26, lost his life in a traffic accident on Crooked Island, that island’s first traffic-related death in approximately 20 years.
