The upcoming 15th Annual Bahamas Business Outlook is slated to include a number of timely presentations from proficient presenters, according to a press release.
One such presenter is Vernice Walkine, the first woman to hold the post as Director General of Tourism, who will be addressing the topic “Partners in Prosperity, Partners in Adversity.”
“Effective Public-Private Partnerships have been and will continue to be the key to the success of our tourism industry. However, the challenge remains for the public sector to provide a more timely response and follow through on its commitments. Most failures that occur are usually on the side of the Public Sector,” said Ms Walkine.
In her presentation, Ms Walkine will focus on the ways in which the public and private sectors collaborate on offshore and onshore marketing of The Islands of The Bahamas and development of the product.
She will also make recommendations to improve the response of the Public Sector going forward.
Also presenting at the 15th Annual Bahamas Business Outlook is James Smith, Minister of State for Finance, who will give an overview of the performance of the Bahamian economy over the past year.
He will also cite prospects for the next two or three years for the major economic sectors.
The business forum will be one of the platforms that Senator Smith will use to address the long-awaited liberalization of the Capital Markets sector in The Bahamas as well as the coming into effect on January 1, 2006, of the Tax Information Exchange Agreement with the United States.
Senator Smith will be the second speaker at the conference, and speaks to the topic, “Performance, Projections and preparations.”
Themed “Creating Suc-cessful Private-Public Partnership,” the conference will be opened by keynote speaker, prime Minister the Rt Hon Perry Gladstone Christie, who will speak to “Partnerships for productivity, progress and development.”
The morning session will generally address the country’s performance in the past and projections for the immediate future of its two main pillars, tourism and financial services.
The slate of speakers has attracted corporate Bahamians from many business sectors to sponsor the forum, including FirstCaribbean International Bank and Baker’s Bay Golf & Ocean Club.
Other presenters for the Bahamas Business Outlook include Mr Julian Francis, Chairman, Grand Bahama port Authority; Ms Minna Israel, Managing Director, Scotiabank and Lincoln Price, Economist and Statistician with the Caribbean Regional Negotiating Machinery (CRNM).
