Alleged Serial Armed Robber Charged

A magistrate yesterday remanded an alleged serial armed robber to Her Majesty’s Prison after he was charged in connection with a string of robberies that took place between January and October 2005.

Police say Dudley Alphonso Burrows, 24, of # 50 Baldwin Avenue, robbed businesses and persons of thousands of dollars in cash, cell phones and other miscellaneous items.

As Magistrate Marilyn Meeres read the 11 counts, Burrows who was dressed in an oversized blue hooded jacket, stood silently with his head bowed.

It is alleged that Burrows on January 27, 2005, while in the company of others, held up Peter Mei with a handgun and robbed him of $300 cash, the property of Golden Treasure Chinese Restaurant, on Farrington Road.

Six months later the accused allegedly robbed the Hong Kong Kitchen Restaurant on Madeira Street of $600. Elaine Merisier was reportedly the cashier.

Police say that during the month of October, Burrows committed a slew of armed robberies, making as many as two hits per day.

It is alleged that on October 10, Burrows held up Anna Clarke-Ellis and robbed her of $115, the property of Facades Men’s Fashion on Blue Hill Road South.

Police also say he stole $130 from Mrs. Ellis.

Three days later, on October 13, he allegedly hit the Golden Gates Treasure Chinese Restaurant in The Golden Gates Shopping Plaza, robbing employee Joey Jan of $1,500, the property of the restaurant.

Burrows allegedly also stole $300, a Motorola flip cellular phone valued at $160, a Nokia cellular phone, which cost $260, the property of Jayco Wireless store, from Christopher Ramhing an employee of that store.

During the stickup, Mr. Rahming’s drivers license and leather wallet containing $40 were also stolen, according to police.

The robbing spree did not end there, police say. It is alleged that that same day, Burrows robbed Naydean Moss of a $350, a Motorola cellular phone and $121 cash, the property of Super Wash.

Using a rusted machete, two weeks later, Burrows is accused of robbing Shannon Minnis of $2,600, the property of Virgo Car Rentals on the East West High Way.

Magistrate Meeres advised the accused of his right to apply to the Supreme Court for bail. Burrows was not required to enter a plea.

A preliminary inquiry was set for May 18.
