New Slant’ at Broadcasting for the Bahamas

Fort Lauderdale, FL — Jay Michaels, a name synonymous with radio, TV and entertainment for over 30 years believes it is time for a change.

In this day of “mega merger” radio stations and “cookie cutter” formats Jay is setting out to do two things. First to create a broadcast for today that has the basic ideologies of the late sixties and seventies but with a Caribbean flair.

It was early last year that Jay teamed with Bahamian Business Entrepreneur and personal friend Pat Paul and other Bahamian businessmen and made application for a radio station with the Ministry of Tourism in Nassau. While their business proposal and confidential ideas are being researched and considered by Government officials Jay Michaels wants to get things moving beforehand.

Jay Michaels is developing an Internet Broadcast facility that will put the spotlight on the Country that Jay feels is one of the most embracing places he has ever been, that being the Bahamas. This Island nation opened its arms to this Philadelphia native some 20 years ago as Jay Michaels took it upon himself, while doing talk radio in Miami, to give his audience a true taste of the Island nation. Recognized by dignitaries at the time such as Minister General of Tourism, Vincent Vanderpool-Wallace, Minister of Works, Bradley Roberts and others in the Tourism and Film departments. Many in the private sector welcomed Jay as well, such as his long time friend, Enrico Garzaroli at the classic Chateau of gastronomy, wine and cigars, Graycliff. Once Jay Michaels got the モsand in his shoesメ it was hard to keep him away from New Providence and the neighboring family islands. At the time his radio management said, モwhy is Jay wasting his time with the Bahamas?メ they were quickly silenced when he brought in contracts from merchants such as Pat Paulᄡs Golden Touch, Linda Huber at John Bull on Bay Street, Graycliff and so many other sponsors who enjoyed hearing an American talk so openly and positively about the Bahamas.

That said, Jayᄡs mother always said モhe doesnᄡt let the grass grow under his feet!メ she didnᄡt know how poignant those words were at the time. While waiting for decisions and approvals Jay Michaels will be creating the Bahamas Broadcast Network (BIN)tm. Along with assistance from Internet guru, Jim Wilson (Wilson and Associates) of Las Vegas who has already introduced the BIN through the Bahamas Buzz and Podcasts about the Bahamas. This talented team will be providing some very interesting programming that will be enjoyable for Bahamians and Americans alike.

Michaels, Wilson, Paul and the others are pretty tight-lipped as to what will be the format of BIN, but one thing Jay Michaels assured us it will be モpositive and upbeatメ programming but nothing like anything on the air today.

Jay is also planning to give Bahamian youth a chance to learn the broadcast industry, モas it used to beメ by developing training for young people he feels are only exposed to radio from an American モhip-hopメ culture taking them away from the beauty of their very strong culture. As an モoutsiderメ coming in Jay feels that he can give these モgeneration x-ersメ different choices and help them appreciate what they have in the beautiful Bahamas.

More to come from the land of pink sand beaches and the warmest people in the world! Jay Michaels says when you discover the Bahamas you quickly realize that Heaven truly does exist, right here on earth!
