Nightclub Patrons Shot

Police were on the lookout on Sunday for the two culprits responsible for an armed robbery and the shooting of three persons in a popular nightclub Saturday night.

According to police Inspector Walter Evans, the incident occurred around 11pm when two men who were dressed in white sweaters with hoods entered Da Bing on Fox Hill Road and held employees and patrons of that establishment at gunpoint.

The intruders reportedly robbed an employee of a small amount of cash. Before leaving the establishment one of the men fired several shots and wounded three patrons, Mr. Evans said.

The three victims, one 28-year-old and two 24-year-old men, were taken to hospital for treatment, he said.

Mr. Evans added that the men were not seriously injured and were later discharged.

Police also reported over the weekend that Julian Brown – the Bimini resident missing since a major fire at the Compleat Angler Hotel on that island on Friday – was still missing.

Continuing efforts to help bring relief to Bimini residents experiencing the double hardship of the Chalk’s Ocean Airways crash last month and the destructive fire last week, Member of Parliament for West End and Bimini Obie Wilchcombe and Foreign Affairs Minister Fred Mitchell travelled to the northern island Saturday.

Mr. Wilchcombe told The Bahama Journal that investigations at the scene of the fire have been complicated as a result of debris from the hotel falling into water tanks stored underground when the building collapsed.

He said investigators were nevertheless searching the premises meticulously in order to determine whether anyone perished in the fire which destroyed the historic 12-room hotel where renowned author Ernest Hemingway resided in the 1930s.
