The Ministry of Tourism released some fairly impressive tourism figures for 2005, and where technology meets tourism, it is anticipated that the figures moving forward would be even more impressive.
The Bahamas is seeking to become the world’s leading practitioner of outstanding tourism technology management, and is looking to beat out its Caribbean competition which has been slow to unite the sectors of tourism and technology according to a report on Tourism Today.
According to the televised report, “The advent of the Internet has revolutionised communication systems globally, and nowhere is this more evident than in the travel industry,” said a spokesperson.
It was reported that the Ministry of Tourism (MOT) was bridging tourism and technology in several ways.
“New technology is being used to track visitor experience, expenditure, and satisfaction; to develop an industry of knowledgeable experts, and to control more of the processes of booking and travel business in the destination,” according to the report.
The MOT also said late last year that it was establishing more systems following its membership in the World Tourism Organisation to give a more accurate picture of how the tourism industry was performing.
