One per cent of all revenue made during the months of February and March at the charming and historical 32-room colonial style inn have been pledged to the committee.
The funds are to be used for both the National Coastal Awareness Campaign and for coastal awareness projects in Exuma.
The Coastal Awareness Committee is a group of stakeholders from the private and public sector formed to heighten the public’s awareness of the importance of preserving the coastline.
“Exuma is my family’s second home,” said Barry Benjamin, owner of Peace and Plenty, “We want to take care of our unique environment and will continue to do as much as we can to promote environmental education both in Exuma and in the rest of the Bahamas. We support Coastal Awareness so that residents and visitors alike can continue to enjoy the Bahamas’ beautiful natural resources.”
“We are grateful to the owners of the Peace and Plenty resorts for this generous donation,” said Earlston McPhee, chairman of the Coastal Awareness Committee. “Taking care of our coasts should be everyone’s concern and we thank all of the companies and individuals that have joined us in this important national initiative.”
The committee will hold events during April including a national church service, a national T-shirt day, a marine exhibition, beach restoration projects, radio and newspaper awareness campaigns and educational field trips. All events are sponsored by private and government agencies.
