Girl Struck, Killed By Bus

Outraged bystanders reportedly attacked a public service driver early Thursday after his vehicle knocked and killed a six-year-old student of Carmichael Primary School.

Police said the little girl, identified as Faith Mackey, and a woman, believed to be her mother, had just exited the bus on Blue Hill and Carmichael roads, just opposite a Shell Service station, when the accident happened.

According to police press liaison officer, Walter Evans, the girl died on the scene. The woman was reportedly taken to hospital after the incident and discharged, although it was not clear exactly what she was treated for.

Police also said the driver was treated in hospital and discharged.

This latest incident marked the country’s seventh traffic fatality for this year.

Meantime, police were on the lookout on Thursday for three men believed to be the culprits behind two armed robberies Wednesday, the first reportedly occurring in broad daylight just before 3pm.

Police said a woman had just arrived at her home on Rogers Corner, off Blue Hill Road north when three men approached her, all dressed in dark clothing, one armed with a shotgun.

According to Police Inspector Walter Evans, the woman was robbed of a small quantity of cash.

Shortly after, police responded to another armed robbery in the Delancey Street area, according to Mr. Evans.

Police said three men apparently kicked in the front door of a home in that area, tied up the female occupant and attacked a male occupant before escaping with small appliances and personal items.

Police believe the two incidents are connected.

Anyone with information that may assist the police in any way of these incidents is urged to call 328-TIPS or 919.
