Men Charged With Carey”s Murder

Exactly two weeks after businessman Keith Carey was shot and killed while attempting to make a deposit at a local bank, two of the three men accused of his death were formally charged with the murder on Monday.

Dwight Knowles, 22, of Rocky Pine Road, and Jamal Glinton, 24, of Nassau Village, appeared before Magistrate Renee McKay.

In addition to being charged with causing Mr. Carey’s death, the men were charged with armed robbery in connection with the incident.

Police allege that the men robbed the businessman of $40,000 in cash and cheques, the property of Esso On The Run on Carmichael Road and Faith Avenue.

The magistrate recused herself from the case, saying that she could not hear the case because she and Mr. Carey were high school classmates.

She advised attorneys for the accused to liaise with the chief magistrate to determine which court the matter will be heard in.

Magistrate McKay told the men that it would be at that time that they would be allowed to enter a plea. She then adjourned the matter to August 10 at which time a preliminary inquiry is set to begin.

Magistrate McKay remanded Knowles and Glinton to Her Majesty’s Prison.

Attorneys Sidney Collie, Cecil Hilton and Craig Butler are representing the defendants.

Following the arraignment, a small crowd that had gathered outside the court shouted obscenities to the two men, as they were being lead away by police.

But Knowles and Glinton’s relatives and friends were also present, shouting for justice and freedom to prevail.

Police, meanwhile, were still on the hunt for a third man wanted for questioning in connection with Mr. Carey’s murder.

Police were looking for Sean Brown, another Rocky Pine Road resident. Police said Brown should be easy to identify because he only has two fingers on his right hand.

He is considered armed and dangerous.
