Rice Disses Bahamas

Earlier this year US Embassy officials announced that plans were underway for Dr Rice to visit the Bahamas sometime in March following Florida Governor Jeb Bush's visit to the country in February.

Although the governor's visit – at which such issues as LNG, education and the two Cuban dentists were discussed – was considered a success, there no longer seems to be any plans for the Secretary of State's visit.

Chief political officer at the US Embassy Michael Taylor said yesterday that Dr Rice will be travelling to Chile, Peru, Indonesia and Australia from March 10-18.

"At this time no plans to visit the Bahamas have been publicly announced," he said.

Mr Taylor could not disclose if the plans for her visit had ever been finalised or if there was a specific reason why those plans have been cancelled.
