When: ﾠDesign-a-Lighter contest kicks off now and runs thru September 30, 2006.
Who can enter: ﾠWhile the contest is positioned to add a new lighter(s) to the Caribbean product line, anyone anywhere can enter.
Why: ﾠA lighter ban by the Department of Transportation in spring 2005 meant travelers could no longer carry their Zippo pocket lighters or souvenirs aboard commercial aircraft. While Zippo Manufacturing Company has been successful in reversing the ban, Caribbean lighter sales have not regained their standing. Besides adding to the 400 Caribbean-themed lighters already made by Zippo, the contest will serve as a reminder that vacationers and travelers can once again purchase souvenir lighters and pack them in checked luggage.
