Security Guard Shot In Robbery

After robbing the store of an undetermined amount of cash, the thieves allegedly shot the security guard before fleeing.

Inspector Walter Evans told the Bahama Journal that the security guard was taken to the Princess Margaret Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition. Yesterday afternoon, he said police were still looking for the culprits.

He also reported that there were two traffic accidents on New Providence Sunday night.

Around 9pm, a man driving a 1997 Suzuki cargo van slammed into a utility pole in the Pinewood area, near Buttonwood Avenue, police said.

The trapped man was reportedly freed from the wreckage by officers from the fire services unit and taken by ambulance to the hospital, where he was listed in stable condition. He appeared to have injuries to his leg and face, police said.

In the other accident, police reported that a man driving a 1998 Toyota Camry on Farrington Road also ran into a utility pole. Officers from fire services unit reportedly pulled the driver, who appeared to have a broken leg, and lacerations to the face, from the vehicle.

A female passenger, who was unharmed, was also pulled from that crash, according to police.

In another matter, Mr. Evans reported that police from the Airport Police Station stopped and searched a white Nissan Maxima on West Bay Street near Texaco Service Station around 9am Sunday and discovered nine pounds of suspected marijuana.

According to police, the suspected drugs were already packaged.

Police said a 51-year-old man was the only occupant of the vehicle. He was taken into custody and is likely to appear in court today.
