Reports indicate that 11-year-old Richard Knowles was riding his bicycle on Bernard Road around four pm when he was hit off his bicycle by a public jitney owned by Stuart’s Bus Service.
According to Police Liaison Officer, Inspector Walter Evans, the young boy was taken to the hospital for treatment. Sadly, he said the 11-year-old succumbed, to his injuries.
Law enforcement officials have said the investigation into the traffic accident is ongoing. However, concerned citizens who heard of the child’s death, said news of the incident comes as a shock, as it has only been about five weeks since the death of Faith Mackey, a six-year-old Carmichael Primary student, who was also mowed down by a public service bus.
In other police reports, officers from the Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) seized 11 pounds of marijuana on Sunday.
Reportedly, the DEU agents were in the Arawak Cay area around one pm on Sunday, when they saw persons loading bags from a Haitian vessel into a Honda vehicle. As the vehicle left the Arawak Cay area, the officers stopped and searched it. Law enforcement officials said an 18-year-old male, who is believed to be a Haitian national, and a 25-year-old Bahamian female were found with the eleven pounds of marijuana in their possession. The authorities added that both the Haitian male, who resides on Sea Breeze Lane and the 25-year-old female, who resides in Nassau Village, are presently in police custody and are expected to appear in court sometime this week in connection with the drug bust.
Additional police reports reveal that two male residents of New Providence were shot sometime after two am while in Exuma on Monday. According to Inspector Evans, sometime after two am, the police in Exuma were called to settle a rowdy crowd near a club in Roker’s Point.
