Two men who allegedly led police on a high-speed chase in the Gardens Hills area last week after allegedly robbing two male employees of a security firm at gunpoint, are facing a long list of armed robbery charges.
Mark McKenzie, 28, of Godet Avenue and Dario Gary Tinker, 24,of Allen Drive, Carmichael Road were both charged yesterday in Court 6, Parliament Street with armed robbery, receiving and conspiracy to commit armed robbery.
Tinker was also charged with possession of a prohibited weapon – a flare gun – and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.
And McKenzie was charged with damaging a van and causing $1,356 worth of damage to a Bahamas Electricity Corporation utility pole.
Tinker and McKenzie allegedly robbed Patrick Levarity of $10,000 and a 1997 Chevrolet Astro van on Friday, April 28, while armed with a handgun and a knife.
Police said the employees of the Good Hope security firm on Mackey Street were picking up funds from a pre-school when they were accosted by two men armed with a knife and a handgun.
The robbers allegedly led police on a chase in the area of Orange Blossom Avenue in Gardens Hills, and allegedly fired several shots at a police vehicle.
During court yesterday, Magistrate Renee McKay informed McKenzie and Tinker that they were not required to enter a plea and advised them of their right to have their case heard in the Supreme Court.
The magistrate told the men that due to the nature of the crime they would not be granted bail.
When asked if they understood the charges brought against them, the men replied, “Yes.”
However, Tinker told the court: “The officers tortured us and then forced me to give a false statement.”
The men were remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison. A preliminary inquiry has been set for May
