Suspect Flees Scene During NIA Drug Bust

Police Liaison Officer Inspector Walter Evans stated that police officers at NIA stopped a male, believed to be a Jamaican national, as he arrived at Nassau from San Andros. He said the officers began to search the Jamaican male's handbag. However, he explained that as the officers searched the bag, the male fled the scene on foot.

Law enforcement officials stated that the handbag contained 24 pounds of marijuana with an estimated street value of $24,000. Inspector Evans said the male arrived at NIA by means of a chartered flight. Authorities are following close leads into the matter, he advised.

In other police reports, two men, believed to be Haitian nationals, were arrested on Saturday after being caught with a loaded gun. Officers from the Quiet Storm operation were in the area of Qintine Alley off Wulff Road on Saturday, when they randomly stopped and searched a Ford Explorer with two male occupants. According to Inspector Evans, officers searched the vehicle and found a loaded nine-millimetre handgun. Subsequently, both men were arrested and taken into police custody. They are expected to appear in court this week.

The authorities confirmed that traffic fatality No. 14 took place on Saturday. Police reports indicate that a blue and white Suzuki 1000 motorcycle and a Ford Explorer collided on Faith Avenue around two o'clock in the morning. According to the police reports, the male on the motorcycle was thrown off the motorcycle and badly injured. A short time later, the injured male was taken to the hospital where he eventually succumbed to his injuries.

Additional police reports revealed that a bystander at a nightclub was wounded after being hit by a stray bullet. Law enforcement officials said an altercation broke out on Sunday morning at a club on Ragged Island Street.

Inspector Evans said one of the persons involved in the altercation at the Club began firing shots. He added that a bystander, who was not involved in the altercation, was shot in the right lower back area. The bystander was taken to the hospital and is listed in stable condition. The authorities have revealed that all matters above are being investigated.
