The shooting occurred after 8 a.m. Monday, when police officers went to a two-storey apartment building on Coconut Grove Avenue and Exuma Street in search of the 19-year-old male, who is believed to have committed several offences, according to Police Inspector Walter Evans.
“The owner of the apartment opened the door, the suspect launched towards the police with a knife. One of the officers discharged a revolver, hitting the male in the left leg,” Inspector Evans said.
“The suspect then jumped through a window upstairs. He was captured and taken to hospital for treatment.”
Investigations continue.
A 25-year-old male was taken into police custody following an altercation in Roker’s Point, Exuma, police said.
According to police reports, the suspect allegedly had a .9mm handgun with one live round of ammunition.
Two males residents of New Providence, who were present at the time of the altercation, did not receive any life threatening injuries.
Police said the men were transported to Nassau for treatment.
